Description

Leather strop pre-loaded with 6 micron diamond paste. The diamond paste gives the strop a stronger abrasive effect and leaves the edge with an almost unreal bite.

The strop has the smooth leather side facing upward. For regular, untreated stropping, both the rough side and the smooth side work equally well. However, we prefer having the smooth side facing up when using diamond paste, since it is easier to keep clean over time. The pre-loaded diamond paste lasts a very long time. It is always difficult to say exactly how long since sharpening frequency varies, but generally speaking, the effect lasts about as long as a whetstone.

Strop block with burgundy-colored leather from Tärnsjö Tannery, vegetable-tanned for maximum stropping performance. The leather is mounted on an oak wood base. The wooden base has been treated with paraffin oil and beeswax for both protection and luster.

The strop block acts as an extra “stone” that you can quickly and easily use to remove the final burr and enjoy a razor-sharp edge.

Dimensions: 212 x 66 mm
Thickness: 17 mm
Weight: 210 grams

A generously sized leather strop that gives your knives the final razor-sharp finish. The strop uses the highest possible leather quality (vegetable-tanned leather from Tärnsjö), and we highly recommend it as a complement to regular sharpening.

  1. Place the strop in front of you on a non-slip surface, or secure it in a whetstone holder.
  2. Place the knife at the beginning of the strop and pull the blade forward. Note: You should pull the blade away from the edge, opposite of a cutting motion! Then flip the blade over and repeat the motion. Do this a handful of times until the edge feels truly sharp.

Make sure to use the same angle as the knife’s primary edge. If you are unsure about the angle, a good rule of thumb is that Japanese knives are sharpened at approximately 15 degrees. Also try to keep the stroke as even and consistent as possible.
