Umajiyama is quarried near the Ohira mine in Kyoto.
These stones are medium-hard, around 3 out of 5, which makes them easy to work with and forgiving—even for those without much experience using natural whetstones. They cut quickly and easily generate their own slurry, making the sharpening process both efficient and intuitive.
