Mikawa Nagura – Highest Grade
Dimensions: approx 50 × 50 × 50 mm
Weight: approx 150 g
Color: Pure white
Origin: Mikawa, Aichi Prefecture, Japan
Nagura stones from the Mikawa mine are traditionally used as auxiliary stones for sharpening and polishing on Japanese natural whetstones (awasedo). They are applied to generate a fine slurry on the base stone, helping to control the sharpening feel and refine the steel’s surface.
This example is of highest grade, meaning the stone has a very clean and uniform structure with minimal impurities. The pure white color is characteristic of the most homogeneous layers within the Mikawa deposit.
The stones are cut into block form (50 × 50 × 50 mm) and are suitable for general use as nagura on finer natural stones.
