Dao Vua is the leading knife brand from Vietnam. All knives are entirely hand-forged, and throughout the entire production process there is minimal machine involvement. The steel used is a high-carbon monosteel, hardened to 61 HRC. The knife takes an extremely sharp edge and is easy to sharpen.
Note: This is carbon steel and not stainless. Always dry the knife after use to prevent rust.
In the manufacturer’s own words:
In 1288, during the second war against the Mongolian Empire (one of the most powerful empires of all time), Tran Hung Dao (ranked among the greatest military generals in history, with this war defining his career) retreated to Thai Binh province to organize weapons against the Mongols. After winning the war, to honor the blacksmiths’ contributions, King Tran Nhan Tong appointed five Masters of Forging (leaders of five forging groups) as the founding fathers of the craft. They remain the symbolic fathers of forging in Vietnam to this day. For over 730 years, the handicraft village of An Tiem has continued its tradition, fueled by firewood, producing knives for agricultural use across the country.
In 2016, combining the creativity of a younger generation with the experience of master craftsmen from Vietnam’s oldest traditional village, Dao Vua was founded. It honors General Tran Hung Dao, King Tran Thai Tong, and the five Masters of Forging. The brand revives ancient forging techniques through 22 secret standardized steps.
Dao Vua was established with the mission of delivering high-quality products to urban customers and export markets, helping Vietnamese handmade craftsmanship gain greater recognition and respect worldwide.
